Meet the lovely Coco! She's a 5-year-old Shih Tzu!
The Shih Tzu is best known as the Chinese “Lion Dog,” though the breed may actually have Tibetan roots! It is greatly debated as to where the breed actually originated. Shih Tzus are known to be an ancient breed, and can be seen in Chinese art dating as far back as 800 B.C. The breed was a longtime favorite of the Chinese royal family.
Shih Tzus are known to be very loyal and affectionate dogs.
A Shih Tzu’s coat can vary from dog to dog, usually straight haired, though sometimes wavy or curly. Shih Tzus are often stated as being “hypoallergenic.” Shih tzus typically do not shed much, and therefore can make great pets for those who suffer from allergies. Shih Tzus should be groomed every 6 to 8 weeks. They benefit greatly from regular brushing between grooms.
