This beautiful Mini Schnauzer is the one and only Lizzie! She's 2 years old!
The Miniature Schnauzer first made its appearance in 1888 in Germany. The Giant Schnauzer was bred with Miniature Poodles or Affenpinschers to create a compact version of the intelligent, and spunky Giant Schnauzer.
The Miniature Schnauzer was originally bred to be a "ratting dog." They were entrusted with the important task of protecting crops on farms from destructive vermin and rats.
The Miniature Schnauzer was introduced to the United States in 1924, and quickly became a very popular pet.
Miniature Schnauzers have a double coat; with a wiry exterior and a soft silky undercoat. They should typically be groomed every 4 – 6 weeks depending on their length and style. Grooming removes dead fur and helps to keep their skin and coat healthy. Dogs with a long traditional “show cut,” usually longer hair on legs, require a lot of brushing and frequent grooming. Matting occurs quickly on Miniature Schnauzers with longer fur on their bodies. Routine grooming also helps to keep their beards clean!
The Mini Schnauzer is a popular pet among a diverse group of celebrities! Famous Mini Schnauzer owners include, Sugar Ray Leonard, Doris Day, Liza Minelli, 50 cent, and Usher!
