Our groom of the week is handsome, 4 year old Fritz! Fritz is a Mini Austrailian Labradoodle.

The Labradoodle originated in Australia in 1988. Australian breeder Wally Conron was looking to create a dog that was both gentle and highly intelligent, and suitable for people with allergies. Thus, he crossed a Labrador Retriever and Standard Poodle. Labradoodles have become immensely popular all over the world. They are wonderful guide and therapy dogs, and perfect family pets.

A Labradoodle's coat or hair can vary dramatically from dog to dog. Some have looser curls, and wavy hair, while others can have very tight curls and a more "woolly" coat. Labradoodles can be groomed to look long and fluffy, or close-clipped and made to look like a traditional Poodle. Because Labradoodles don't shed, their undercoat is easily matted. They should be groomed every 4 to 6 weeks. Grooming should be frequent if they like swimming and or their coat is kept long and fluffy. They can be considered high maintenance, but they are so worth it!
