This adorable Beagle is our friend Molly! Molly is 3 years old and she loves to be pampered!
Beagles have been around for thousands of years. Their history can be found as far back as Medieval times, but the Beagle that we know today was bred in the 1830’s in England. Beagles are extremely intelligent and have superior tracking skills due to their sense of smell. They were originally hunting dogs, scent hounds, used to hunt rabbits. Beagles were introduced to America in 1840. The breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1885. The Beagle has become an extremely popular pet. They have been in the AKC’s top ten list of breeds for the last 30 years, and in the top 5 for the last 5 years.
The beagle can be described as “single-minded” and “determined,” sometimes making them difficult to train. They can also be distracted by scents around them. They are great with children, and very gentle in nature.
The Beagle’s short, dense coat repels a lot of dirt and debris. This is perfect for a hunting dog; however, they still need routing bathing. Their coat can still trap some dirt, and dead fur. If they are not routinely bathed and brushed they can have problems with their skin.
Beagles need frequent ear cleaning! Their floppy ears can hold moisture and breed bacteria. If your Beagle loves to “off road” and get muddy and wet, their ears should be cleaned and dried thoroughly every time they come in contact with water! Their ears should also be checked for excess fur and wax, as that can also cause major issues for Beagles.
Beagles are awesome! Their popularity goes way back; they can be found
Famous Beagle owners include Charles Darwin and President Lyndon Johnson.
We can’t talk about our love of Beagles without mentioning the most famous Beagle ever, Snoopy! Charles Schultz introduced us to the lovable comic strip Beagle in 1950. We’ve been entertained by him for over 60 years! In the Peanut’s series Snoopy has written novels, been a pilot, and Charlie Brown’s faithful sidekick.
